An alternative way to enhance the magneto-optical response is to exploit the huge increase of the electromagnetic energy density associated with plasmons. We have used two different approaches: (i) Corrugated gold/dielectric interfaces coated with magnetic nanoparticles; (ii) Colloidal dispersions of magnetic nanoparticles. Our study reveals that the magneto-optical activity is enhanced by up to one order of magnitude for wavelengths of resonant plasmons.
